Deep in the Atherton Tablelands of Far North Queensland is where mist lingers and waterfalls whisper through the ancient forest.

There’s something truly special about the Atherton Tablelands; it’s one of those places that stays with you long after you have left. The air is thick with mist, every surface glistens with moisture, and the sound of rushing water follows you, everywhere you go!

Come with me .... there's a Cassowary at the end!

Come with me .... there's a Cassowary at the end!

As is often the case in the rainforest, the days were unpredictable; sunshine one minute, mist and rain the next, but that’s part of what makes it so magical. Every change in light reveals a new texture, a new rhythm. The rainforest doesn’t pose for you; it moves and breathes on its own time.

When I was capturing the new Atherton Rainforest Waterfall Series, I wasn’t just chasing a beautiful shot. I personally needed that quiet energy you feel when you stand beneath a waterfall, surrounded by trees older than time. And each walk, each waterfall, delivered just that. Each step deeper into the forest felt like stepping into another world, one that’s peaceful, wild, and grounding all at the same time. Plus, I got some cool prints to take back to the gallery.

As is often the case in the rainforest, the days were unpredictable; sunshine one minute, mist and rain the next, but that’s part of what makes it so magical. Every change in light reveals a new texture, a new rhythm. The rainforest doesn’t pose for you; it moves and breathes on its own time.

These waterfalls sit on the traditional Country of the Waribarra Mamu people, which is part of the larger Djirrbalngan language group. And the name 'Millaa Millaa' comes from the Yindinji language, which can mean “plenty of water,” “waterfalls,” or even refer to a local rainforest vine. How cool! I love that the name itself carries that sense of abundance and connection to nature, it feels like the perfect reflection of this place.

I'm thrilled to add these new waterfall prints to the Rainforest Collection. And to be honest. I do wish I’d had more time. Between chasing waterfalls and searching for that elusive Cassowary, my days disappeared too quickly.

But that’s the beauty, and the challenge of nature photography - there’s always something left unseen, and always a reason to return.
