Being winter, it made sense to head up north and do some Ningaloo Reef scuba diving, and how can you not add in some Whale Shark swims!!!
My previous scuba diving experiences at Ningaloo Reef (in 2003, 2005, and 2011) had always been out of Coral Bay.
So for this trip, I decided to base ourselves out of Exmouth and dive that section of the reef. It was a refreshing change and provided a new perspective on this incredible underwater world.
I came back with some great ningaloo reef images, which I'll share soon, but for now I want to share with you this collection of Whale Shark images I captured.
There are 8 finished prints and I am thrilled with them!
These gentle giants are the largest fish in the ocean and are a magnificent sight to behold.
I’m excited to share their beauty with you!
Ningaloo Reef, located off the coast of Western Australia, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the few places in the world where whale sharks congregate regularly. Each year, between March and July, these magnificent creatures migrate to Ningaloo Reef, following the spawning of coral that provides a bountiful feast of plankton. This natural phenomenon attracts whale sharks from across the Indian Ocean.
It's important to be aware of the deep cultural significance of the Ningaloo Reef to its traditional owners, the Jinigudera people.
The Jinigudera have lived in harmony with the land and sea for thousands of years, their rich cultural heritage intertwined with the rhythms of the ocean.
Their knowledge and respect for the marine environment have been crucial in preserving this delicate ecosystem and it's an honour to document the whale sharks in a place that holds such profound meaning for them.
The whale sharks glide effortlessly through the crystal-clear waters, their presence a reminder of the awe-inspiring wonders of our natural world.
I invite you to explore this collection and immerse yourself in the beauty and mystery of the whale sharks.
Let these images inspire a deeper appreciation for our oceans and the incredible creatures that inhabit them.
Thank you for joining me on this visual journey.
Dive in, and enjoy the view!
