Measuring just 17 metres across within the vast 2,300km expanse of the Great Barrier Reef, this tiny natural wonder sits right in Airlie Beach’s backyard, just beyond the Whitsunday Islands.
From above, its remarkable heart shape and vibrant colours are unmistakable. A little natural wonder hidden within one of the world’s most extraordinary reef systems.
I captured this image from a helicopter with the doors off (always my preferred vantage point!). Every time I fly over Heart Reef, I’m still amazed that such a tiny patch of coral has formed into the shape of a perfect heart.
It’s almost as though Mother Nature herself wrote a love letter to us all.
