Bait Reef is one of the most breathtaking reefs within the Great Barrier Reef… and that’s saying something!
Located approximately 65 kilometres northeast of Airlie Beach, this protected marine sanctuary is renowned for its incredible diving and vibrant underwater wonderland.
Teeming with life and colour below the surface, Bait Reef captivates from every angle. From the air, however, it takes on a new presence. Framed in this print by the open ocean in the foreground as well as left and right, it appears almost solitary. Yet we know it’s part of a vast network of sister reefs stretching for thousands of kilometres north and south.
Captured from the open door of a helicopter (always my preferred vantage point), this image showcases the reef in all its natural artistry: raw, fragile, and impossibly beautiful.
