Floating in the deep waters of the South Pacific, I was incredibly fortunate to experience a special encounter with a giant humpback whale and her newborn calf.
Swimming with humpback whales is both exhilarating and incredibly peaceful. Being in the water with animals of this size certainly keeps you in your place, but there was something about this mother's energy that made me feel completely at ease.
Almost as though she'd given me permission to be there, to quietly witness and capture this tender moment between her and her calf.
The water was clear, the temperature just right (for this girl, who gets cold in the shade!), and the memory of it all still feels like yesterday.
